Winter is an excellent time to get house projects done as many people are home more during the colder months. This begs whether to knock out pressure washing when it is cold outside. You can always call your local pressure washing company and let them do it for you. If you want to do the pressure washing on your own, please consider these three very important points.

Protect Yourself

Getting wet while pressure washing is inevitable. Being wet can be dangerous during cold weather. You need to protect yourself from the danger of hypothermia. Hypothermia can still happen even when land temperatures are well above freezing. Make sure you bundle up, including a hat and gloves to protect your skin. Work during the warmest time of the day and take indoor breaks to warm up.

Also, watch where you step because the ground will get wet and can get slippery. Be mindful of any potential ice that can form as the ground gets wet.

Protect Your Chemicals

Remember that pressure washing chemicals can become less effective in colder temperatures. Chemicals work slower in cold temperatures. Plan to use more chemicals and allow more time for them to be more effective. This is another reason to do your pressure washing during the warmest part of the day. Don’t let your chemicals freeze in between washings. They can separate when allowed to freeze. Store in a dry and warm location.

Protect Your Machine

The winter months are a pretty precarious time for pressure washing equipment, even for professional cleaners. It is very important to drain the water lines and to store your equipment properly or else you risk the pieces inside the machine freezing and breaking. Consider running a blend of 50/50 antifreeze and water through your pump.

Pressure washing can be done during the winter but it needs to be done with special care. The good thing is that you don’t have to worry about it.
